As our world becomes daily more dependent upon the individual's sense of responsibility, what seemed like a simple, personal decision a few years ago is now deserving of more serious consideration.  Consideration for not just our own lifestyle but it's affect on today's neighbors and tomorrow's generations.

The ability to purchase the "biggest & best" also affords environmental accountability.

We need to make the right choice - for everyone's sake.

This certainly does not mean cook over an open fire and keep food cold in the nearby stream.  Be we are seeing our kitchens in a whole new light - LED.

Sorry, couldn't resist that.

Energy Star products are a given.  Beyond that, put some serious thought into exactly how and what you cook - how often you entertain  - and for how many people?  If you definitely want a double oven, consider a standard 30" width with a smaller (still 30" wide) top oven.  You'll have the main oven for large items and baking with the smaller unit for "everyday" casseroles, meatloaf, chicken, desserts.  That top oven will preheat in much less time and cook just as well.  Think energy ($) responsibility.

A convection microwave maybe the answer for your second oven or a double oven range instead of wall ovens can save space.  Again, how do you cook - what do you cook - for how many people.

This principle carries through to the refrigerator and every other appliance - actually, the entire house.  Efficiency and quality are the first consideration.  Regardless of the kitchen's overall size, a smaller work area is very efficient and comfortable.

Being aware of options and conscienciously planning, can find space and savings for perhaps a wine or beverage center, a built in coffee maker or a dishwasher drawer and  microwave in the family room - all nice.

Plan well - be responsible - live comfortably.
